Ok, I will admit it.......

I have a weird fascination and/or attraction. I can remember having it as far back as the fifth grade. I have a thing for guys in the performing arts. There. It is out in the open. For most this wouldn't be any big deal. But, for me, it doesn't fit in to my normal attractions.

I am attracted to, and am married to, a very rough around the edges kind of guy. A self assured, quiet at times, funny, hard-working, family man. A man in theatre, generally isn't considered the blue collar type. However.........

it all began in the fifth grade during the Sound of Music production put on by our high school. A senior, Brad, played Mr. Vontrap. Now, I have no prior knowledge of Brad, but after seeing him in the play.......I LOVED Brad. I thought he was the greatest. And sexy too. Same goes to the lead in "Into the Woods" played by a kid, 6 years my junior. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I was a married woman and he was still in high school. Is it the lights? Is it the make-up? Is it the singing and dancing?

This phenomenom happens EVERYTIME I see a live production. Regardless of content. Case in point..... Last night, a group of girls including my mom and sister, went and saw "The Full Monty". You guessed it. Sucked in.....completely. Jerry had me hanging on his every.......word. And I am pretty sure it wasn't the lights, the make-up, or the singing and dancing THIS time!!!! (I am just kidding....I kill me!)

Do you know that TMS is a former high school thespian? He just told me that there was always a girl like you in the audience--always someone who was a little star struck. Claims that after each play he had a new girlfriend.

I saw Hairspray recently and was love struck by the male lead. I read in the playbill that he occasionally appears on Days of our Lives. For weeks afterwards, I checked the show for him and never saw him. I'm still swooning over him.

Yep, I totally believe it about having a new girlfriend each time. There is just something about it......I can't quite put my finger on it. I can't say that I am star struck on any actor on television.....but something about a live performance gets me every time.

I sometimes watch Days. I wonder who he played.

I think the attraction is rooted in an appreciation for someone's courage. I think some people have great anxiety when they think about speaking in front of a group much less performing.

I so thoroughly enjoyed doing it. It's a shame I don't have the opportunity to do it anymore.

What's that? Having a girlfriend?

I can't remember the "Days" character name, but I thought he looked like a blonde Harry Connick, Jr. Does that ring a bell?

TMS - I saw you perform in many plays during high school, and I'm having trouble remembering the "new girlfriend"-after-each-play thing. Sorry, man.

Maybe it's a "created" memory?

TBF, shall I list them by show or by girl? I can go back to 3rd grade when Dawn Miller was fawning over me after HMS Pinafore.

I'm not sure if this was a good find, but thanks to this blog, I found the object-of-my-Hairspray-affection's web site. www.austinmilleronline.com.

I say I'm not sure I'm glad I found it because it kind of ruined my fantasy about him. He looks kinda gay in most of the pictures. Imagine that? A thespian looking gay. It's just that he was such a heart-throb as Link Larkin.

TMS - I'm just curious...Brigadoon?...Hello Dolly?..THE Variety Show?

OK, I looked up the site and I have to agree with you. He does look gay in most. And when he doesn't look gay, he looks like he is trying too hard. It is just the live performance....it gets you everytime.

I'm taking dictation from TMS:

Brigadoon...Patty Jacobson

Hello Dolly...Renee Summerfeld

The Variety Show...Jill Robinson (does that one still sting?)

That last comment was me, not TMS.
