A penny saved is a penny earned......

Twice now, while paying cash for something, I have been owed a penny back-and haven't gotten it. For instance, the bill was $4.99 and I gave them a $5. Both times I was just thanked and the cashier went on about their business. Now I am not such a stickler that I needed the penny back, and I didn't say anything to the cashier.....but I did feel like they could of at least ASKED me if I wanted it. After all, it was MINE.

What has happened to us? Are we so above saving our pennies....? In todays world with debit cards/credit cards/checks/etc have we lost sight of the fact that 100 pennies is what a dollar is made of? It isn't some intangible figure floating around in our checkbook register. Times are a changing.... Pluto no longer a planet.... and eventually the penny will be no more.

I am done sounding pathetic now.... All of this because I wasn't asked if I wanted my penny back.

When I worked in fast food, it occured to me that if I shorted each person just a few cents, it would really add up over time. I never actually DID that, but I'm just saying that maybe other people have thought of this and you are unwittingly helping them pay for that new hot tub.

TMS got upset recently that, when cleaning our house, I tossed a penny in the trash. He couldn't believe my reasoning that it wasn't worth my effort to find a piggy bank to put it in.

I think I have to side with TMS on this one. I am not going to say I haven't wanted to just toss them when cleaning out the "junk drawer", but I haven't succombed....yet.

I just came back from Culver's (wedding's over-diet's off) and FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER I didn't get my penny back. It's the principle of the thing.... I do, however, usually feel kind of dumb waiting for my penny.

Timber, I am right with you! The thing is I would of made her get a manager to reopen the register back up to get my penny. Don't think I am joking! I am cheap and not about to part with a penny that is rightfully mine. I would do the same for a hay penny which is sadly gone!

And SK - for me, please never throw away another penny again! That is something I have never been tempted to do. Uh, 83 of those suckers buys you a refill on a nice ice cold 44 oz coca-cola at the local convenient store.

I appreciate your complience.
