Just a question.

(Insert any given situation here)

Do you stand up, speak up, and prevent yourself from being pushed over and around? Even if you know that it will change nothing in the long run and cause hurt feelings in the short run?

Or

Do you swallow your words, and pride, and sit back down and carry on?

Anyone and everyone, please tell me...what do you do and what do you think should be done.

I'm not a fan of putting people on the defensive even if I'm initially in the defensive, so I'd say I am more like the second scenario. It always feels crappy though. However, I have to keep my lovely friend Kristi's advice close to my heart and try to be the bigger person. Now, if you're messing with my kids, I'll stand up for them regardless. :) I'm fierce like that.

ok, i used to say "sit down and keep it to yourself". however, im tired of that attitude. if something needs to be said or done to someone who is doing or saying something wrong..DO IT! speak the truth kim! (i assume we are talking about democrats here, right? LOL)

Definitely keep quiet. I avoid confrontation at all costs but I'll stew over something forever.

Not sure which is the better way.

What's up?

Marlana, I agree with you about standing up for your kids...that is a given.

Manda, actually I was referring to the "Thanksgiving incident '09"...

TSK, I was referring to the "complicated" relationship I have with my mom....

Things and people are what/who they are. In this instance they will never change. Sometimes the short term relief you get from speaking your mind isn't worth the long-term penalty. I don't like hurting people but SOMETIMES I get tired of being hurt. That is where I am...do I speak up/out? Do I just accept it for what it is, and with acceptance realize that it will also never be, or get, any better?

I think this issue needs an actual conversation! I'll give you a call in the next couple of days.

It depends....

I am all for speaking your mind; however, you have to ask yourself if it will make a difference. Because, speaking from experience, sometimes speaking your mind with family only makes things worse. Some people are so set in their ways that nothing you say or do is going to change that. NOTHING!

So I guess I will have to say, if you think it will make a difference then definitely do it!

then again, when it comes to that sort of thing, my hubby always says "just keep your damn mouth shut".....

I just keep quite and keep on going. But it usually eats a whole in my stomach. I just hate to confront people on things. Like Marlana if it's about my boys then you better watch out!! My momma bear urges just come out. But I think that's normal. I try to be the bigger person too but dang it why do we have to follow all the rules when others don't?
